Hill, Geoffrey

Poeta inglese (Bromsgrove 1932 - Cambridge 2016). Prof. all'università di Leeds (1954-80) e poi alla Boston University, dove dal 1988 insegna religione e letteratura inglese. Le sue poesie sono incentrate sui temi della morte, di Dio, dell'amore, della guerra e del fluire del tempo. La tessitura dei versi, di estrema sofisticazione intellettuale, richiama, almeno nella struttura formale, J. Donne e Ben Jonson. Fra le raccolte poetiche: For the unfallen: poems 1952-1958 (1960), King Log (1968), Mercian hymns (1971), Tenebrae (1978), The mistery of the charity of Charles Péguy (1983), Without title (2006), Selected poems (2006) e A treatise of civil power (2007).
